Two linden trees

Two linden trees that together are over 500 years old

In front of the former forestry cabin, in the settlement of Brezova Reber pri Dvoru, grow a pair of mighty linden trees, which together form an imposing crown on the common growing area and are therefore inextricably linked. The trunk circumference of the thicker linden tree measures 520 cm at chest height, which places it among the thicker linden trees in the Dolenjska region, while the trunk of the thinner linden tree measures 370 cm. Based on the thickness of the trunks, the linden trees are estimated to be at least 250 years old. A castle once stood not far from the linden trees, where Auersperg forestry workers had their forest district headquarters on the Ajdova plateau. We therefore assume that the linden trees were planted precisely by them.

The Municipality of Žužemberk consists of 6 settlements the names of which derive from the root of the word “lipa” (linden). These are: Podlipa, Mali, Srednji and Veliki Lipovec and Malo and Veliko Lipje. There are over 40 of such settlements in Slovenia.

A linden tree is never struck by lightning, resting under a linden tree will heal you, at the same time the linden tree is a receiver of bad energy, even sickness, and is an air purifier.
